Insection is an abstract composition that explores repetition and balance through organic forms. It's inspired by the intricate markings of a Harlequin Beetle. The painting invites viewers to discover their own interpretations before revealing its natural origin. Many viewers first notice an insect with outstretched wings and this is one reason this section of the shell was chosen. |
COLLECTION
Hidden Pattern Series
The Hidden Pattern Series explored the remarkable geometry, symmetry and repeating structures found throughout the natural world. By abstracting these forms, each painting encourages a closer look at the patterns that often go unnoticed.
ARTIST'S OBSERVATION
At first glace it may look like a mirrored image but there are many small difference from each side. I was intrigued that there was a insect on the shell of a insect and greatly enjoyed painting it.
DISCOVER THE INSPIRATION
The Harlequin beetle's range extends throughout the tropical and subtropical forests of Central and South America, from Mexico down to northern Argentina and Brazil. It spends much of its life on recently fallen hardwood trees, and the larvae help recycle dead wood, playing an important role in maintaining healthy forest ecosystem. Adults grow up to 3 inches in length and are harmless to people.
